Monthly Teaching Tip: The quickest way to teach consonant sounds!

Teach the easiest consonants first.

When you’re teaching the sounds to consonants, skip the hard ones… for now.

If your student already knows the names of the letters (or most of them) you can fast forward the learning of the consonants by beginning with the ones that sound like their name:

b, d, f, j, k, l, m, n, p, q, r, s, t, v, x, z

That’s 16 consonant sounds they can learn in just minutes. Just add a short vowel then teach them to blend sounds, and they are on the road to reading!
