Monthly Teaching Tip: Ensure your student doesn’t get stuck!

The sure way to prevent your student from getting stumped, frustrated or deflated is utilizing appropriate reading materials!

If your student has only just learned the letter sounds and a little blending, the early-reader books should:

  • Stick to short-vowel three-letter words
  • Use only periods at the end of sentences
  • Contain only very few of the shortest sight words
  • Have just one or two short sentences per page

By keeping the words and sentences simple, your student will struggle less and have a higher chance of success — and will be excited to keep reading!
