Today, we honor those who sacrificed for our freedoms — such as the right to an education. 

Did you know that Congress passed Memorial Day into law in 1968 (which went into effect in 1971) to be celebrated on the last Monday in May?

But the first observance of fallen soldiers began in Waterloo, NY after a call by General John Logan for a nationwide day of remembrance. More and more cities began doing it too and from there it grew. Read more here.
